Tucson
Fr. Emanuel Franco-Gomez, O. Carm.
Father Emanuel (“Manu”) Franco Gomez serves as the Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Tucson. In addition to pastoral duties, he teaches theology at Catholic University. Fr. Manu holds a Master’s degree in Theology and an MFA with a major in Illustration.
Father Manu, a priest and scholar, is known for his extensive study and devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, focusing on the historical, theological, and spiritual significance of the Marian apparition and its impact on the Catholic Church and Mexican culture.
In 2022, he founded the first JUCAR community in the United States. JuCar is short for Juventud Carmelita, which means Young Carmel. While new in the United States, JuCar has communities worldwide for kids, teens, and youth.
Fr. Manu has always been involved in ministries with young people, having been a teacher since 2006. Born and raised in Mexico, the Carmelites are the reason Fr. Manu journeyed to the United States in 2012. He was ordained a Carmelite priest in 2018. Fr. Manu also uses his God-given talents as an artist and illustrator to serve the Church. He is a digital native and enjoys using social media as a way of ministering to teens today. He states, “I really love ministering with young people to see where their creativity and energy can take us as a Church.”

Phoenix
Fr. John Nahrgang
Father John Nahrgang is a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix. Since 2023, he has been pursuing licentiate and doctoral degrees in Mariology (the theological study of the Virgin Mary) at the Marianum in Rome. His current research focuses on Mary's ancient title Theotokos ("Mother of God") and its articulation in the Message of Guadalupe.
Prior to this, Fr. John served as Episcopal Vicar for Evangelization and Education for the Diocese of Phoenix (2021-2022), studied at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Washington, D.C. (2020-2021), and served as parochial vicar at the Cathedral of Saints Simon and Jude in Phoenix (2018-2020). He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Thomas Olmsted in 2018.
As a non-Catholic college student, John Nahrgang made his first visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City "on a whim" during the Jubilee Year of 2000 proclaimed by Pope John Paul II. Ever since, he has experienced the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a particular way on his spiritual journey. In 2006, at the age of twenty-six, he was welcomed into the Catholic Church at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His conversion story was featured in a 2009 episode of EWTN's The Journey Home with Marcus Grodi.
Fr. John aspires through his gifts of teaching and preaching to impart a deeper sense of awe, love and devotion for Jesus and Mary, for the greatness of their lives, the miracle of the Incarnation and the ongoing miracle of our life of grace and union with God.
“Our Lady Loves You!”
